... The Flood Warning remains in effect until 300 PM PST Friday for southern Spokane and southern Kootenai counties...
As of 1000 am PST Thursday morning... much of the significant rain had ended over the Spokane and Coeur D'Alene area. Rain showers are likely through early evening... but additional rain amounts will be less than a tenth of an inch.
The threat for significant urban flooding will be decreasing this morning and this afternoon. Temperatures will be falling into the lower 30s. The arrival of colder temperatures will slow the snow melt. Northern portions of Spokane and Kootenai counties have been cleared of the Flood Warning... including the majority of the Spokane/Coeur D'Alene Metro area.
The main concern for flooding will be over southern portions of Spokane and Kootenai counties. Small streams like hangman creek... California creek... and Rock Creek will continue to run high through Friday. Officials report problems with ice jams on hangman creek near the community of Latah.
Some of the small creeks in southern Kootenai County feeding lake Coeur D'Alene and the Chain of Lakes in the Cataldo and Lane areas may also be running high through Friday.
A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported. Be especially careful near streams with ice jams. Water levels can rise quickly as ice jams upstream break. Also be cautious of large ice chunks floating in the current.
Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely. Move to higher ground.
